IR(H) completed on H135
This course is for obtaining an instrument rating for helicopters, completed on the EC135 T3H.
Course content
The course is divided into theoretical and practical components. The theory consists of a minimum 3-week learning programme (depending on the licence held), held remotely, and an in-person seminar lasting at least 2 days. All knowledge needed for the following subjects is taught during the theory part:
- Flight planning
- Radio navigation
- Instruments
- Aviation law
- Human performance
- Meteorology
- Radiotelephony methods
The theory component concludes with an examination at the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt in Brunswick, Lower Saxony.
The practical training is divided into at least 40 hours in an FNPT II and at least 10 hours flying in a helicopter.
The training ends with an approx. 2-hour examination flight with an experienced examiner for instrument flight rules.
General requirements
Licence required
Applicants for an IR(H) must hold the following licence:
- at least a PPL(H), and:
- night rating in accordance with FCL.810 letter (i), or
- an ATPL in another aircraft category, or
- a CPL(H) or ATPL(H)
Minimum age
There is no minimum age for obtaining an IR(H). However, Aircraft Radio Regulation (FlugfunkV) s 3 requires a minimum age of 18 to obtain an AZF E radio certificate.
